KDixon 1947 Journal 68. June 23. Yellowstone River 7 mi NE Glenmore, 2000 ft. Dawson's, Mont. area was the Meadowlark. Turkey Vulture and Red-tailed Hawk overhead and Sparrowhawk seen along one fence. Saw Listerina on top of a hill; snake went into barrel before it could be captured. Only reptile seen. Noted Field Sparrow singing in grassy patch. Returned to area along creek and collected 9 American Goldfinch, located nest of Field Sparrow a rather deep cup of grasses suspended between two upright stems in Shepherdia bush, about 1 foot above ground. 2 flushed, no eggs in nest. Located another Field Sparrow nest in grass at base of low Artemisia 25 yards from streamside shrubbery. Nest contained 5 newly hatched young; 2 flushed from nest - one of waited in Shepherdia nervously, uttering occasional sharp note "pit". Collected Lark Sparrow, (♀ no 53) of pair which flew up to area on slope dotted with Artemisia bushes. Collected Red-shouldered Flicker which flew up from ground to perch in cottonwood. Crop contents were black ants and white grubs. I met Reynolds and returned to camp with him. He collected a ?? Western Bluebird on fence along main road. Returned to camp at 11:30 - weather conditions unchanged. 3:15-7:15 PM - ran transect from camp
