KDixon 1947 Journal 61. June 22. Yellowstone River 7 mi NE Glendive, 2000 ft. Dawson Co. Montana, eight feet above ground contained 2 eggs. F with brood patch. Collected F Red-headed Woodpecker calling from top of dead Cottonwood in brushy clearing. Mate appeared at this tree 10 minutes later. I collected a pair of Yellow Warblers in similar situation (No. 79450) at the edge of a willow stand. Overbird heard calling in this area. Cowbird flew overhead. Noted imm Cottontail Rabbit in Symphoricarpos. Saw Yellow-shafted Flicker in one dead cottonwood and a pair of Red-shafted Flickers in cottonwoods in meadow. Collected a Western Meadowlark perched in a cottonwood in the meadow and saw a Red-tailed Hawk overhead at this time. Flushed White-tailed Deer at edges of meadows on several occasions. Commenced raining in early afternoon, continuing steadily into evening. June 23. Yellowstone River, 7 mi NE Glendive, 2000 ft. Dawson Co. Montana. Partly cloudy, sun shining, breeze 5 mph northerly as I left camp with HC Reynolds, proceeding southeast into grass-covered hills. Noted a pair of Dark Buntings fly from Cottonwood-willow along draw to grass beside road. One bird with object in bill, possibly nesting material. Both flew together back toward brook. Reynolds took Western Ring-bill along road on fence. Proceeded up creek
