R Dixon 1947 Journal 58. June 20. Yellowstone River, 7 mi NE Glendive, 2000 ft., Dawson Co, Mont. This bird remained in the tree for about one minute before I collected it. Also collected me Rana [illegible] (No 40) pipiens in grass nearby. Overcast & calm at 8:00 PM. Heard 2 Horned Owls in woods across meadow to north. Saw Nighthawk fly past & attempted to collect it as it flew back & forth over clearing above rose thickets & among trees - bird left area at 8:15PM. Commenced raining at this time. Comments on bird life in addition: many Ring-necked Pheasants in area, calling occasionally from meadows. Red-headed Woodpeckers heard occasionally; one collected by W Russell today. Cedar Waxwings common in area in flocks of 3-12 in numbers. Russell noted Eastern Kingbird in camp today. American Goldfinch common in area in small flocks - ?? or greater number than ??; birds restless & hard to approach. June 21. Yellowstone River, 7 mi NE Glendive, 2000 ft., Dawson Co, Montana. Stormy throughout day, wind gustily up to 15 mph; rain intermittent, often falling for an hour or more; generally cold and uncomfortable. Surface run- of f considerable.
