K. Dixon 1950 Mustela vison June 22. Robinson Cr., 7 mi S W Bridgeport, 6900 ft., Mono Co., Calif. N-S trending valley at E base of Sierra - some lodgepole pine on slope to W - sagebrush on low range of hills to E. Trees along stream were Lodgepole Pine & aspen with some scattered clumps of willow up to 10 ft in height. About 8:00 am we noted increased number of chip notes of Song Sparrow on W bank of creek which was about 20 feet across at this point. Then we saw a mink climb out of the creek and move with what resembled a flowing motion through the grass and [illegible] perhaps 6 inches in height. A House Wren moved over into a pine nearby and also gave a "s-colding" call. The mink returned to the edge of the stream and slipped quietly into the water and swam downstream. It reappeared about 30 feet down-stream in quiet water behind an [illegible] log. The Song Sparrow was there to greet the mink which did not leave the water but disappeared downstream. The House Wren moved over nearby but soon left & calls of the sparrows also subsided. (Written from memory June 26)
