Pipilo f. May 11 Strawberry Canyon 7:55 PM Towhee calling from N end of grassy glade on ridge between tributaries. 2 minutes later towhee calling at lower end of ridge - same individual I feel - Verified a moment later. 8:10 - Towhee giving rapid pip pip pip --- from W of main road and simultaneously another on E bank of 1st tributary calling. Fence 2nd Tributary 8:17-8:20 glade gate Creek Fence = "pip pip pip" rapid X = single phased "pips" Sunset about 8:00 PM bird heard here at 8:35 May 12. 8:10-8:15 PM - foggy. Towhees calling as follows : 1 east of Farmhouse; one up S slope in clearing W lambs S of lab ; one E of pool along creek ; 1 on W facing slope of draw W lab & one considerably farther upslope in brush.
