(all notes given chip chip etc: approx 3 every 2 seconds Bird flew down into this small leafed shrub, moved to several perches in turn, then disappeared. At 6:55 a towhee, (too dark to see band) was perched momentarily on chimney and chip notes of two birds were heard simultaneously calls continued for several minutes after this bird flew down out of sight. May 3. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co., Calif. Brown Towhee pair noted in lower part of 2nd draw W Poultry lab and in willows near head of brook N of Poultry hut 8:30-11:30 AM. May 4. Individuals called from area at SW corner of Botanic Garden (3:15 PM) and NE of pool (4:05 PM) May 5. Towhees seen on 2nd tributary N of Reed (S of Garden Fence) at 9:35 and another at SW corner of Botanic Garden at 10:50. May 6. 10:08 towhee calling from oaks along creek near farmhouse road. 2 min later towhee seen at edge of road on N side of pool.
