K Dixon 1950 Carpodacus mexicanus May 7. 314 Alcatraz Ave., Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif. (Continued from Martha Dixon's banding notes). ? House Finch trapped and banded on window ledge in our back yard January 29. 5 ?̇̇ and 4?? color-banded (no govt aluminum bands used) between March 19 and April 18. Most of these birds were seen in the back yard at one time or another but no consistent pair relationships were evident. During the last week in April, these birds were less visible in the backyard and eventually left altogether. On May 2 several unbanded birds were seen in the area. This group consisted of 3 ?̇̇ & one ?, all unbanded. One of the ?̇̇ was banded 2 days ago & the other two today. These birds appear as a rule either in the morning or evening but no nesting activity is evident. Vines growing on an old shed in the yard appear usable by finches but as yet are not occupied. Disappearance of the group of 10 banded birds & their replacement by an influx of new individuals may indicate that the area does not provide all the factors necessary for breeding of this species here - too few trees perhaps?
