K Dixon 1950 Carpodacus p. Apr 8. 314 Alcatraz Ave., Oakland, Calif. Flamedo Co. ♂ singing in side yard at 9:00 AM - not seen. Apr 20. I have not heard song of this species here this week. May 23. ♂ heard singing in back yard in mid-afternoon but bird flew in SW direction only 1 yard before I could see it. June 11. Subsequent to the above date & including today, I have heard Purple Finch song in vicinity of 62nd & Helligass Streets, Oakland, 2 blocks south & one block west of the above locality. I have not seen the bird, which sings most often from a large deciduous tree on that corner. Bird seemed to be alone. House Finches heard occasionally in vicinity. Question whether this may be the "♀-plumaged" ♀ still exists. July 27. Univ Calif Campus, Berkeley, Flamedo Co., Calif. Several times during morning I heard melodious call "chur see dee" from edge of eucalyptus grove W life Sci Bldg. This is the first sunny morning in a week or so but I have not heard or seen much of this species on the lower campus as shown by checklist on yellow sheet with journal section of notebook. Dec 26. Davis, Yolo Co., Calif. the third cold foggy day in a row. At noon I saw four finches in an alpinus tree in the residential part of town. One gave the "pit" note of this species several times.
