KDixon 1947 Journal June 18. Yellowstone River, 7 mi NE Glendive, 2000 ft., Dawson Co., Montana. Noted 2 Black and White Warblers in these woods, both singing. One pursued the other twice, each time after the latter had sung, and drove latter from the area. I shot at the first bird twice but either failed to kill it or lost it in herbaceous undergrowth. Other species noted in this woodland: American Redstart, Ovenbird, Spotted Towhee, American Goldfinch (on borders), Brown Thrasher (at border). June 19. Yellowstone River, 7 mi NE Glendive, 2000 ft., Dawson Co., Mont. Cloudy in east at 04:30 PM, later clearing completely, becoming warm. In field from 05:30 to 10:00 AM. Calm until 09:00 when westerly breeze up to 8-10 mph came up. Hunted in tract of box elder woods between meadows (locality collected in yesterday), until 08:00 AM. Collected ♂ Redstart (No [illegible] 29) in those woods singing song similar to that of Black and White Warbler. Collected Ovenbird ♀ (No31) in same area, attracted by my hiasing. Also took ♂ Yellowthroat (No33) at edge of these woods a few yards from the river. Noted Turkey Vulture and probable Hairy Woodpecker flying overhead, heard Downy Woodpecker in woods. Other species noted within this tract of woods 75 yards wide and several hundred yards long were Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren, Red-eyed Vireo Chat. Yellowthroat was not found in the center of the woods where undergrowth was only grass there.
