K Dixon 1950. Hylocichla ustulata July 17. Univ. Calif. Campus, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. Completely overcast (high fog) and cool throughout day. At 10:30 am. Three thrushes along Strawberry Creek W. of Life Sciences Bldg. were singing full songs ('trill effect') At least 3 others were [illegible] (single notes) in the same area. July 20. Sun breaking through thin cover of high fog - two thrushes singing sporadically in area outlined above 10:05-10:10 am. July 22. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co., Calif. I was in area from pool to point S of Botanic Garden where road crosses creek from 3:00 pm to 4:45 - single call notes of thrushes heard but no full songs. July 25. Univ. Calif. Campus, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. For the second consecutive day I missed hearing calls of this species. I walked along creek S of Life Sci. Bldg. 6:15-6:30 # weather [illegible] heard this thrush. (Overcast throughout day) Aug 1. This morning (9:40-10:40) I noted several Swainson Thrushes along creek & edge of eucalyptus grove W of Life Sci Bldg. On several occasions (single) call notes were given. Although I saw & heard this thrush in the canyon on July 22, 28, & 30, I have neither seen nor heard it on the lower campus since July 23. total [illegible] or migratory influx? I heard one calling from Buckeye N of Museum at 7:40 pm. Aug 2. Thrush calling where W branch of creek goes underground (N of Life Sci Bldg) at 5:10 pm. If this species was here last week, it was unusually silent. - Individuals up the canyon were calling intermittently when I was up there (see above)
