R Dixon 1950 Cyanocitta May 12. Strawberry Canyon flew to S end of woodland. Both Steller and Scrub Jays seemed to be loitering in this area; they probably heard cries of young Stornice in nest. June 21 +3 mi E Fales Nat Spres, 7050 ft, Mono Co., Calif. lone Steller Jay noted in roadside aspen - bird flew upslope into pines. June 23. East Walker River, 8.3 mi by road N Bridgeport, Mono Co., Calif. In midafternoon noted lone Steller Jay in streamside growth beside road which lies on W bank of river here. Growth willed-like, somewhat resembling the composite Phuchea. Bird flew weathward across road about 2 feet above ground affording clear view of black crown in contrast to blue back. Jay flew into juniper & worked up to top & flew to next tree before I could get a shot. Bird disappeared upslope in pinons & I could not relocate it. Strong wind blowing down canyon.
