Pinon juniper occurs in good tracts in canyon of East Walker as part of a belt extending around Bridgeport Valley to E and on lower slopes of Sweetwater Mtns. to N & W. Perhaps Edmice occur sparingly here + were silent + inactive due to wind. Robinson Cr., 7 mi SW Bridgeport, 6900 ft, Mono Co., Calif. We reached camp about 5:30 pm - wind still strong & continued so well into night. Yellow Warbler, House Wren & Warbling Vireo persisted in song. June 24. I shinned at the jays this a.m. & walked through gray area & collected garter snake (# 437). Saw body of Rana fluttered in roadway but no others encountered here. We left about 11:00 & drove to Bridgeport & then to Mono Lake and Lee Vining. From there (1:00 pm) we drove S & then E through cut over Jeffrey Pine to area which used to be Mono Mills & then decided to follow State Hwgy 120 E toward Benton. In the vicinity of Granite Mtn. I saw a Loggerhead Shrike, the only one I had noted in this country. We drove to Benton Station and left there at 2:30, returning through Benton & turning S off highway after driving 4 miles out of town.
