K Dixon 1950 Journal June 23. 4 mi. N & 2 mi E Bridgeport, 7200 ft., Mono Co., Calif. (10:40 - 12:00) Nighthawk - one seen overhead & another flushed from low shrubbery among juniors - I scared up what was apparently the same bird which flew into wind & then paused as though turning to fly downward. I hit bird at this point perhaps 35 feet above ground. I made it into a skin (# 434) which I discarded since bird was riddled with shot. Black-throated Gray Warbler - scattered birds Green-tailed Towhee - several singing Bush - tit ?? heard while I watched jay - not located again Cliff Swallow overhead several times We drove down along one of the East Walker River into Nevada for several miles & then southerly back up into the pinyon - juniper country near Masonic. We never succeeded in finding this "locality" exactly although we sighted one mine & saw a sign on a road leading to another mine. I hunted from 2:30 - 3:10 in pinyon - juniper woodland near Masonic in Mono Co., Calif. This was the best pinyon-juniper country I have seen hereabouts yet animal life was scarce perhaps due to the strong wind. Plain Titmouse? - 2 gray birds of this size seen as one: they flew silently from one pinyon to next. A bird then flew away from tree to tree & other also disappeared. Chipping Sparrow one pair Black-throated Gray Warbler ?? seen Steller Jay ? fleeting glimpse Sparrow Hawk one seen
