K Dixon 1950 Journal June 22. 5 mi S & 1 mi E Bridgeport, + 6400 ft., Mono Co., Calif. Pinon stand on steep SW- facing slope of canyon of East Walker River. I hunted upslope to point about 400 feet above floor of canyon 1:30 - 2:00 PM. Only bird encountered was the Rock Wren. I located a pair(?) and took a bird which sang, shooting it as it sang from a rock. The bird proved to be a juvenile (S?) and I saved it as a skeleton (# 433). Bridgeport, 6465 ft., Mono Co., Calif. In the broad green valley in which the town lies, Brewer Blackbird was the common bird of the pasture lands. Redwing occasionally seen and Yellowheaded Blackbird only one. Cliff Swallow abundant. Also noted California Gull, Marsh Hawk (1S) & Turkey Vulture. We returned to camp + moved tent to avoid seepage due to rising stream. June 23. A windy day, velocity up to 25 mph at times. We drove West of Bridgeport at 9:30 + turned E at point 1 mi N of town, going toward Masonic. We got car hooked on rock + finally freed the vehicle + stopped to hunt at point 4 mi N & 2 mi E Bridgeport, + 7200 ft., Mono Co., Calif. Wind strong here in area largely of pinon with some juniper. There was a good stand of trees which had been cut selectively for firewood I presume. There were some clumps where branches of pine juniper were interlaced with branches of the next. Birds noted: Scrub Jay: I ran on to what apparently was a family group and took a juvenile (# 436) and an adult (# 437), 2 which apparently was not breeding since (block-filled) testis measured 3 mm. Others of group scattered.
