K Dixon 1950 33 Journal June 21. Robinson Cr., 7 mi SW Bridgeport, 6900 ft., Mono Co., Calif. slopes to W which had pine forest higher up. I collected a California (?) Toad (#431) at dusk in grass & saw others. June 22. We got up & had breakfast. Noted common birds: Brewer Blackbird (carrying nesting (?) material), Wood Pewee, House Wren, Yellow Warbler, Cassin Finch. See account of Mustela vison for this date. We left camp about 8:45 am & drove to Bridgeport and then to the old mining town of Bodie, 8300 ft., Mono Co., Calif. an area of shallow valley surrounded by higher sagebrush-covered hills. Here we noted Belting? ground Squirrels and Red-shafted Flicker (heard) Mtn. Bluebird Say Phoebe Green-tailed Towhee Cliff Swallow White-crowned Sparrow Rock Wren Brewer Sparrow House Finch We left Bodie about 11:30 and drove back down the dusty road to, 3 mi SW Bodie, 8000 ft., Mono Co., Calif at place where a brook about a foot across crosses the road and an old cabin stood beside the road. A pair of Mountain Bluebirds had a nest wedged between the window frame and the sheet tin covering the win on the west side of the two-room building. I saw 2 young which looked & acted as though ready to leave the nest. The parents were feeding the young & I took the white-headed ? (#432). A pair of Say Phoebes had a nest inside the cabin in a ledge in one corner. The young in this nest seemed to be a Buff?, Zenaidura, Oreoscopy? few days old only. Also in this area: Salpinctes.
