K' Dixon 1950 Journal Apr. 29 Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co., Calif. (Species acc'ts cont) Perce inornatus, Viscio huttoni, Oporornis. Insect life appeared abundant with caterpillars of several types seen on the ground, dead Tipulidae at the roadside and many bumblebees in flowers such as Thimbleberry. All the deciduous plants seemed to be leafed out in full. As I stood for 30 minutes in one place in oak woodland, several small larvae fell from canopy above and struck my shoulders & head; I heard others striking Rubus leaves here & there intermittently. Foraging adults biding their time would have little trouble finding food for nestlings. Apr. 30. Beginning this date, all times noted are PACIFIC DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME Foggy day. Martha & I drove N over Golden Gate Bridge and won State Hwy 1, passing through Stinson Beach at 12:20. Bolinas Bay, Marin Co., Calif. 12:30 - 12:50. Overcast. Noted Egret, Kingfisher, Ruddy (6, ??? in breeding plumage) American Golden-eye, Caspian Tern(1), Western Gull. 1 mi NW Inverness, 100 ft, Marin Co., Calif. Collected one chestnut- backed Chickadee of a pair in live oak - madrone woodland - Western (?) Flycatcher (no calls given) seen but out of range. Hutton Vires not seen San Francisco Bay on route of San Rafael - Richmond Ferry. Strong W wind, overcast. Noted Western Gull in adult plumage Ring-billed gull (adult), California Gull (mostly 2nd year), Greater Scaup (one), Forster Tern(3).
