Virginia City, 6250 ft., Storey Co, Nevada 12:00-2:00 PM Piñon Jay - 4 in area of sparse juniper growth Flicker (1) House Finch Singing heard in leafless cottonwoods in town - unmistakable ending with rising inflection. English Sparrow - in town Rock Wren On road E of Carson City, noted that junipers extended to lower elevation than did piñons. Carson City, Ormsby Co Nevada to Placeville, Calif. Noted no piñon juniper on E slope of Sierra on U.S. Hwy 50 (Yellow Pine extended down into sagebrush) In area slightly above lower edge of yellow pine at about 5300 ft (+6 mi SW Carson City) noted Steller Jay, Flicker, Pygmy Owl, Creeper, Clarke Nutcracker. Vegetation Yellow pine + Aspen. Along shore of Lake Tahoe Robins in meadows at edges of snowbanks. Snowpack here also appeared sparse although +6-7 ft high over Echo Summit.
