K. Dixon 1950 Journal Apr. 2 17 mi. N of Reno, Nevada ___________, in Lassen Co., Calif. in a patch of junipers. Saw one Paur and 2 Western Bluebirds (see other act Pauri innovator). Cow dung dried on ground among trees. Deer tracks plentiful (one incomplete skeleton found; I picked up a tick apparently from sagebrush). Martha saw 3 deer up slope. Cactus had not been browsed recently; Artemesia had fairly fresh flower stalks and apparently hadn't been fed on either. No other animal life seen; dead hares on roads frequently met. We were in area 5:25-6:15 then returned to Reno for the night. See species acc'd of Cyanocitta stelleri and Carpodacus purpureus for this date. Apr 3. Reno, 4500 ft., Washoe Co., Nevada Clear, calm day. Noted the following species in ranch area at south edge of town (scattered groves of leafless cottonwoods): House Finch (singing), Robin, Killdeer, English Sparrow. Along Truckee River, Cliff Swallows and 2 d Mallards. 7 mi S of Reno Redwing s & s stationed in marshy area. At point 10 mi S of Reno (junction U.S.395 and Nevada Hwy 1) no amphibians found in search along stream and adjacent seepage area. ~2 mi E Steamboat Spire, Washoe Co., Nevada Area of pinon, juniper and yellow pine about 5000 ft. elev. crossed 10:00 - 10:30 AM, noted: Black-billed Magpie (2) Mountain Chickadee 2 in yellow pine Rock Wren singing Robin
