KDixon 1949 Odocoileus hemionus Aug 15. NE face San Pablo Ridge, Contra Costa Co., Calif. Noted a doe walking across open space between maple tree and enclosure in bottom of draw at 10:57. She watched me intently as I sat in open 100 yds north of spring. She worked along edge of brush slowly, looking up frequently, apparently at me. At 11:00 she started across flat to water trough and disappeared from view behind willow trees. At 11:05 she appeared NW of willows crossing to W side of draw. Wood 5-6 miles from Wolf South all this time. At 11:05 she started up slope N of willows still looking at me; she stood there facing me until wind shifted slightly (she was due east of me). Suddenly she whirled and bounded to eastward and disappeared around the slope. She looked in good condition, nose shiny black. I saw a second doe smaller than 1st in clearing beside willows at 12:20.
