K DIXON 1949 Psaltriparus minimus June 24. Univ. Calif. Campus Berkeley, Alameda Co., Caly. Overcast; 8:00 AM. Noted Bush-tit fly out toward sidewalk from low hedge along S wall of Baseball field. Bird was followed, struck and borne to ground by an English Sparrow. The Sparrow struck the Bush-tit (apparently in the back) with its bill and apparently held it with its feet. The bush tit flew upward with fluttering flight and was brought down by the Sparrow in a similar fashion. The same action was repeated about 3 more times the Bush-tit flying in a different direction each time apparently aimlessly. Finally the Bush-tit followed by the Sparrow reflew out toward the street between 2 cars & was lost from view - I had to leave. Apparently the Bush-tit was an immature although tail length was approximately normal.
