Aug 11 NE face San Pablo Ridge Contra Costa Co., Calif.
9:30 AM high fog overhead, wind 7-8 mph chiefly from
west. Dove flew into draw with cattle trough and perched
on branches of dead Phammus near shingal base of
hill. After 7 minutes the dove took flight, acting as
though alarmed, flying upslope due south + over ridge.
I had seen 2 white domestic pigeons overhead
today as well as on August 8. See species acc't
of Lophortyx californica for details of setting.
Aug 15 Dove perched on fence near spring at 11:05, then dropped
to ground. Aircraft overhead apparent cause for bird taking
flight to E from point on ground 15-20 yards E of spring
at 11:17.
