K'Dixon 1949 Journal Dec.19 Sears Point Road, 6 mi NW Vallejo, coved mounds rising 2-3 feet above the general level of the marsh and other traps along the edge of the marsh, total of 70 traps. Rudd set out about the same number on the mounds and each of us set out four traps in a small marsh inward for a Baccharis-covered bank. Noted western gull (1) Marsh Wren, Song Sparrow, and a flock of +20 House Finches in Bacchasis. At sunset (5:00 PM) flock of 16 White Pelicans in marsh across road. Flocks of Pintail & Shoveller + one Canvasback. Dec 20. Rudd picked up the traps; I did not go with him. The catch in his traps was microtus 1 Sorex 8 Reithrodontomy 17 mus 6 while mine on the mounds was Reithrodontomys 8 mus 9 Sorex 2 microtus 1 and on the edge of the marsh, Reithrodontomys 1 } mus + { 33 traps Total 57 (my total for 74 traps was 25) Rudd set his traps more carefully, specifically seeking Sorex runways or placing the traps deep in the Salicornia whereas I placed many of mine on open ground. There was ice on some of the brackish pools according to Rudd. The mounds were an estimated 30 feet from the edge of the marsh perhaps closer to 30 feet in some places.
