K DIXON 1949 Journal Dec 17 1 mi NE Alviso, Santa Clara Co, Calif. jindelia frog which had not been submerged; the rat apparently dry was killed by Rudd as he attempted to dislodge it. In a distance, a gull picked up something from the surface of the water & dropped it; other gulls swooped over the spot for 1-2 minutes - exposed vertebrate animal the prey ??? The water level dropped rapidly after 12:00. We found a Perithodantops in Spartina; the rodent appeared to have remained dry (Rudd took it with .22 duot shot). A Rallus nearby was shot & left lying. As the vegetation emerged birds other than ducks weren't much in evidence. We returned to levee & road & loaded boat on trailer & departed by 1:15. Estimated height of tide + 9 feet. Predators weren't much in evidence other than gulls noted above. One Short-eared Owl & one Marsh Hawk & both near garbage dump. No rain except + 11:15- 12:00. Breeze light, northerly. Seave Point Road, Dec 19. 6 miles NW Vallejo, Solano Co, Calif. Left Berkeley about 7:00?! accompanied by R.D. Rudd driving via Vallejo and N of Mare Island, 3:00 at arriving at a Salicornia marsh where Rudd had trapped mammals previously. The water level was much higher than he had found it previously and apparently nearly all the Salicornia had been inundated recently. At the edge of the marsh two kinds of saltbrush (Australian Stipley?) and Bermuda grass were growing and Baccharis shrubs were growing on higher ground. I set out 3 traps on each of 12 Salicornia
