RDixon 1949 Journal Nov. 25. Putah Creek, 2.7 miles by Road W of Yolo Co. line Napa Co Calif. Populus-Salix-Quercus area along creek Blue Oak-Pines- Cloantime on slopes. Noted Red breasted Sapsucker in Blue Oaks. Collected Brown Towhee from pan foraging close to poison oak shrubbery on bank of creek. Also saw here Ruby-crowned Kinglet, White crowned Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Cook, Spotted Towhee. Putah Creek 1 mile E of county line, Yolo Co, Calif. Vegetation along creek similar; noted Audubon Warbler, Downy Woodpecker, Arkansas Goldfinch. In Niostane saw Lora & Anna Hummingbird. Along road we noted Black Phoebe (1) several Love Jay Phoebe, 4-6 Western Bluebirds in telephone wires. Heard Brown Towhee About one mile from mouth of canyon we saw Acorn Wood- pecker & heard Plain Titmouse in Blue Oaks. Heard Nuttall Woodpecker & Robin, saw Scrub Jay, Red tailed Hawk and heard Brown Towhees. Oregon Junco flocked, foraging in Valley Oak. House Finch calling overhead. Also Audubon Warbler, Ruby-crowned Kinglet & Arkansas Goldfinch. Dec 9. NE face San Pablo Ridge, Contra Costa Co, Calif. High fog overcast. In area 9:20-10:20 AM, baiting quail. ? Marsh Hawk, Bush-TT flock, Wren - fit song. See spec. act. Lophortyx Dec 11. Sunny day. In area 4:20 PM - 4:50 PM - baiting quail, see act. Dec 14. Clouding in, calm. In area 8:50 - 9:40. Noted & Stalridge orchids as well as gulls (Calif.?) flying to + from San Pablo Res. Dec 17. Benete Berkeley, Alameda Co, to Alvino Santa Clara Co, Calif. Left Berkeley, accompanying R.L. Rudd, at 6:15 AM. We drove via Hayward & Milpitas to Alviso where we met Chas J Sibley at 8:20 AM.
