Y Dixon 1949 37. Journal Aug 23. Univ. Calif. Campus, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. 12:30 PM of a calm sunny day. Noted 2 Chestnut-bated Chickadees in oak SW of life Sciences Bldg. Aug 25. NE face San Pablo Ridge, Contra Costa Co., Calif. In area of quartz study 2:40 - 4:30 PM accompanied by NE Childs, Jr. Sunny; light breeze increased after 3:30. See species acc't of Lophortyx. Noted Lone Horned Lark in grassland, Red-tailed Hawk, Spotted Towhee in addition to chaparral dwellers usually met. Oct 5. In study area 8:30 - 10:00 AM - persistent low fog and wind up to Smpl. See spec. acc't hophortyx. Oct 8. Clear, breezy day. In area 4:45 - 6:10 PM. See species acc't. Saw group 5-6 Brewer Blackbirds flying W at 5:05. Noted probable Cooper Hawk in brush & woodland. At 5:50 (+/-10 min after sunset) I saw +/6 swallows foraging in flight and moving southward slowly (tails too short for Barn Swallows) At 6:05 (calm) I saw 2 large bats flying NE across crest of ridge - bats flying individually, flight powerful, fast, direct (Antozona???) Oct 23. Has Trampas Creek, Contra Costa Co., Calif. (Dam at St. Mary's College). Clear, mild morning. Noted following species on pond 11:15 - 11:30: Eared Grebe, Ruddy, Coot, Lesser Scaup, Canvasback (2), Baldpate (4) Egret (1), Killdeer (3). Oct 29. Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif. (1 mi. S of Univ. Calif.) Clear morning, 8:00. Heard a few Cedar Waxwings overhead but could not see them. Nov 16 NE face San Pablo Ridge Contra Costa Co., Calif. On ridge 9:00 until 10:15 - see spec acc't Lophortyx californica for weather data on plant growth, list of animals noted at:
