Aug 15 NE face San Pablo Ridge Contra Costa Co, Calif
In draw where cattle trough is located north of Inspiration Point 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Wind from west 5-7 mph through period; clouds passing overhead. See species acc'ts Calif. Quail, Mule Deer, Carpodacus mexicanus. Noted a flock of ~15 Horned Larks on grassy ridge at 10:30. One Brown Towhee in willows at noon and another at edge of brush to E. Other bird species noted in this draw:
Turkey Vulture Mourning Dove
Sharnaw Hawk American Goldfinch

Plain Titmouse (in willows) Pileolated Warbler.
2 Spotted Towhees in poison oak thicket fighting in "rosater" fashion rising together to 3 ft ~ 3 times.
Aug 23. Overcast, wind 8 mph from W. In draw where cattle trough located 6:50-8:15 See spec. acc't Lophortyx californica. Noted House Wren in upper part of ridge at edge of road. Bewick Wren singing there. Flushed a Horned Owl roosting in laurel on ridge NE of cattletrough. Saw a second Owl perched on end of horizontal branch of oak ~8 feet from any foliage; ears erect. Bird flew as I raised binoculars and a Calif Jay pursued it in flight. Bird perched across draw downstream. Heard song of Orange-crowned Warbler in willows.
