KDixon 1949 2. Aphelocoma ultramarina April 25. Sawmill, 27 mi. NE Globe, 5600 ft., Gila Co, Ariz. I noted several individuals of a flock drop to the ground in open oaks & pines at base of the hill - little underbrush. One individual hopped about, pecking several times at some object, then flying uplope several yards, seemingly quite restless. April 27. 8 mi. S Whiteriver, 6100 ft., Navajo Co., Arizona. Collected an immature jay (bill whitish) & a group of 3 or possibly 4 individuals in pinon-juniper area (bird in a lone yellow pine). Individual ?, non-breeding (oviduct a thread, no ovum more than 0.5 mm). April 28. In draw E of mesa where I had hunted in past 2 days. Just bird in streamcourse with somewhat broad alluvial crescent covered with small oaks; yellow pines on bluff (20 ft higher) to east. yellow river 40 ft high. (sketch drawn from memory.) I heard calls ("jake rake" ) and saw one bird fly up from ground under oaks; other bird (at least one) called from nearby, then all were silent. I followed the first and took it (? first year, non-breeding); shortly afterward calls of 2 other birds upstream were heard. April 29. I saw one bird about 7:00 Am in draw N of camp. I originally an of the impression that there was but one group of 4 Arizona Jays in this area & of food during our stay; I remain this date.
