K Dixon 1949 Journal April 27. 8 mi. S Whiteriver, 6100 ft., Navajo Co., Arizona + 2 feet in diameter and blue oak with yellowing leaves. Trees are rather widely spaced with low bunch grass in between. on hills to north woodland of piñon, juniper, blue oaks, and a few yellow pines. I walked up this hill about 10:15; warm, breeze gusty to 10 mph, clouding in from north (cumulus or nimbo-cumulus). Saw Scrub Jay which I missed. Other birds noted: Audubon Warbler - most abundant bird Black-throated Gray Warbler Violet-green Swallow - several seen overhead Plain Titmouse - see species acc't Arizona Jay - took one bird out of group of 3 or possibly 4 in piñon-juniper-oak area. Bird first year (F.A. B. tolds) non-breeding (oviduct a thread, no ovum more than 0.5 mm). Bridled Titmouse - one taken, see species acc't. White-breasted Nuthatch - took a ♀ in junipers + piñons (only one heard) Piñon Jay - one flew over Ruby-crowned Kinglet - several seen Enicognathus - one seen Also saw jackrabbit and several cottontails - no squirrels. Collected Sceloporus on dead stump about 11:00. Returned to camp at 1:30 PM. Also heard Wild Turkey gobble on hilltop about noon. I left camp about 6:15 proceeding south along edge of meadow - streamcourse deep cut (+ 10 ft wide + 4 ft deep) 31.
