K Dixon 1949 Journal Apr. 21 Cassadero Spring, 23 mi. ENE Globe, 7050 ft., Gila Co. Ariz. walls. Heard a Rock Wren here where a Canyon Wren had been calling the night before. Lucy Warblers were rather abundant in the walnuts and sycamores as were Audubon Warblers in breeding plumage. I took one singing ♂ Lucy Warbler (#338) midway up in a walnut tree. Heard a woodpecker drumming and saw a ladder back in hackberry - another flying from nearby and both flew across the brook. The ♂ was in a hackberry there and as I flew to him, he flew back across the brook. She moved up to the highest vertical branchlet and I took her (#346) The male drummed again from same tree as before but flew downstream. Several Cassin Kingbirds were in area and I shot at one in bushes up slope - this bird flew north calling as if angrily in flight, returning to perch in a tall walnut. No gave note "Kee-clear" and a longer call which I did not record. I took him from that perch (#341). Other birds seen: Wooded Oriole - paired; two pairs along creek showed no territorial behavior (F.A. Pitelka reported evidence to contrary; I saw chase with orioles unidentified) Bullock Oriole - one ♂ seen - no song. Green-backed Goldfinch - heard Sparrow Hawk - ♂ calling flew overhead, perched nearby Yambel Quail - common in area - "cow" and me "assembly" type call heard. House Finch - heard several times Vermilion Flycatcher - ♂ seen descending in slow flight
