A Dixon 1948 Parus inornatus Nov 30 Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. Clear, cold morning, 8:30 AM (1/2 hr. after sunrise) Heard titmouse singing "Peter Peth" song from poplar(ornamental) on SW corner of Bancroft & Piedmont streets. Bird apparently alone ( no answering calls). Dec 10. Heard same bird singing at 8:45 AM (spewich song). Bird had sung at 8:05 (time of Sunrise) yesterday AM in same locality. Dec 13. 8:30AM rainy morning. Heard song in same area two notes "sweet sweet" and then a single note (the same) alternated. Dec 17. Song heard momentarily at 8:30 AM - same as noted above. Dec 18. Clear morning - 8:15 - titmouse giving sicaloe calls from Arancania tree at NW corner (Piedmont & Bancroft). Bird apparently alone again, called more vigorously at my crude imitation of whistled song, dropped lower in tree and did pendulum in the dim light from peering at me from directly overhead. Bird then flew over to adjacent tree. Two Regulus calendula present. 9:00 AM - titmouse on telephone wire 50 yds W (near nest tree 1948) singing "Spewich Spewid" Bird flew to Redwood on S side of Bancroft, still alone. I departed from Berkeley this date and so couldnt follow this case further.
