Clear morning, 9:00 AM. Heard song of ♀ in oaks and laurels along Strawberry Creek below Cowell Hospital, the first song or record of the species this year.
Apr 9. Wildcat Ln, Contra Costa Co., Calif. - flycatchers heard along creek (willow - oak - alder) throughout morning - secretive one seen high in alder at 10:30 - call & song alternated.
Strawberry Canyon, Univ. Calif. Campus, Alameda Co., Calif.
5:30 PM, cool, calm, clear. Watched flycatcher for 10 minutes as it foraged in willow valley along creek, sallying after insects in open and also among branches of willow. Bird gave a dry note chit repeatedly while perched and typical species of rising inflection only 5-6 times during this period. No complete song.
