Western-billed Sparrow - singing from conspicuous perches in trees - variable, wren-like song. Morning Dove - one flushed in trees; 4 upslope Meadowlark - are singing from fence in the more lush grass-herb growth House Finch - heard singing in trees Archer's Goldfinch - didto Rock Wren - singing from rock outcrops. Thyla - chorus heard once. Orange-named Warbler 1 in willow Bewick Wren one singing Departed 11:00, driving up stream 5 miles. Ascended draw leading northward - amid slope with low 'soft' sage' chaparral and scattered Juniperus along trickling streamcourse. Green-backed Goldfinch heard. House Finch & Audubon Warbler of? in breeding plumage in leafless Valley Oak at mouth of ravine; Lone Digger Pine nearby. Yellow-billed Magpie across valley, Sparrow/Hawk soaring over- head. Departed 12:15, return by same route.
