In canyon 8:15 - 12:4# with zool 113 class - 12 people. Clear calm with clouds passing over and downstream breeze 9-10 AM; clear thereafter although cool throughout morning. Proceeded up Canyon Rd to Boreky lab by 9:30; spent 10:15 - 11:00 in area upstream from Botanic Garden (NE of) - returned via main road. (Bush-tit confusion chowhead once) Plain Titmouse - see spec. acct; in song throughout morning Downy Woodpecker - see spec. acct. Western Flycatcher - call notes heard Warbling Vireo 2 or 3 individuals singing. Pileolated Warbler - song heard several places Orange-crowned Warbler " " Ruby-crowned Kinglet - one song; several birds (males largely gone to breeding grounds?) Bewick Wren - one song Steller Jay - "Red-tail scream" note En route Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif to Coral Hollow San Joaquin Co., Calif. left Berkeley at 1:30 PM accompanied by Robert L. Redd - drove via Walnut Creek, Dublin, Livermore and then SE on Tesla Rd. - clear with increasing cloudiness.
