Dec 28 Cottonwood Cr., 2 mi N Barrett Jct., San Diego Co., Calif.
similar lack of bird life. We departed
and drove back to La Mesa - no further
incidents worthy of note. I have an impression
of fewer Red-tailed Hawks seen on this
trip than in the same area in previous
winters.
Dec 30. Alvarado Canyon, 1 mi N, 4 mi W La Mesa, San Diego Co., Calif.
In area 1 mi E of junction with San Diego River from
5:15 until 6 PM - cloudy, calm. Broad canyon
bottom with several small streamcourses. Vegetation
Baccharis viminea and a composite of similar growth
form a scattered canopas & Prunus ilicifolia in
bottom; scattered sycamores & willows. Noted several
Jadwalls on small ponds - several Coots also
present which did not flush. Heard California
Thrush singing on N-facing slope. Audubon
Warblers abundant. Also noted White-crowned Sparow,
Bran Towhee, Ruby-crowned Kinglet. See ahee acc't,

Dec 31. Yagui Well, 18 mi E Julian, San Diego Co., Calif.
Arrived at well about 5:15 PM accompanied by M Williamson.
Waterhole for cattle located at mouth of draw leading
north from San Felipe wash. latter runs E-W covered
with smoke tree (Dalea) Several Ironwood trees &
mesquite in waterhole area as well as smaller
composite shrubs. Draw to N had typical
desert shrubs, Larrea, Encelia, Acacia greggi,
