Store, arriving on mudflats W Golf Course at 6:50 PM - cold NW wind 6-8 mph, sun shining, cloud or fog bank to W. Noted large flocks of Western Sandpipers all along N-facing beach, Marbled Godwits and Willets in small flocks feeding along shore with Dowithers and Black-bellied Plover about half of which were still in varying degrees of summer plumage. large-billed Curlew 1, Greater Yellowlegs 1, No. Phalarope 3, Sanderling 4, Killdeer 3, Semi- palmated Plover a few, Avocets a few large flocks. Proceeded to gravelly sandbar near bridge to island of Alameda at sunset (7:45) - noted here both East and Western Sandpipers, Willets, Black Turnstone (7), Hudsonian Curlew (2), Marbled Godwit, Western Yellowlegs. Pool E of Golf Course: Phalarope, yellowlegs (1) other large species (Plover, Godwit, Willet, Dowithers). (On large ship first visited, Pintail, Western and Ring-billed gulls; Forsters Terns overhead). Sept 18. U.C. Campus, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. 5:00 PM, overcast. Swamson Thrush seen in Sequoia along creek near Faculty Glade - same bird had calloso and subsequently answered my whistle with single note call.
