KDixon 1947 Sorex July 18. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8000 ft., Park Co., Montana Caught ♂ (182) at edge of slowflowing brook 1-1½ ft wide in area of Picea engelmannii forest (trees 80 ft approx). Herbaceous vegetation of area was Thalictrum, Ribes, and grasses. Considerable moss on moist ground. The shrew had been chewed on the middle of the back, apparently by another shrew. July 20. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8000 ft., Park Co., Montana. Caught ♂ (196) in trap baited with oatmeal between two fallen logs 8 inches apart 10 ft from a running brook at the edge of Picea-Abies forest and a willow bog. Damp area with considerable moss; young conifers to 15 feet and dwarf willow 2 ft high in immediate vicinity. Took ♂ (197) in oatmeal-baited trap at base of 7-foot Picea beside a bog pool 3 feet across. Herbaceous vegetation entirely Carex about one foot high. Fallen logs 4 inches in diameter in vicinity of trap. Bog in clearing for firebreak, 75 yards wide with Picea-Abies forest on either side. Trap set 20 feet from stream and 50 yards from where ♂ (196) was taken.
