K Dixon 1947 Empidonax sp. July 7. 2 mi E Shiver, 6500 ft. Carbon Co., Montana. Noted song of flycatcher in willow thickets in marshy area at junction of creeks ¼ mile below my camp. Located bird singing from dead twig above foliage of shrubby willow 10 or 12 feet high. Song resembled quality of Western Flycatcher and was similar in other ways. Consisted of 2 phrases, the first rather dull and wooden, the second a sharp, unmusical whistle something like "ceip wheat" repeated at regular intervals. No call note given. I collected this bird, a ♂ no 129. Actions and habitat identical to ♂ 117 taken the day before in the same locality. No trace of ♀ in either territory, the birds having been taken in thickets 100 yards apart, 117 at the eastern edge (closest to that of 129) as I chased him 75 yards west along the creek, later collecting him at the east edge of the thicket.
