K Dixon 1977 Dendragapus July 13. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft, Parkelo, Montana Clear, calm morning; 10:00 AM. Bench 75 to 100 yards wide on SE facing slope about 300 ft higher than camp. Area of open coniferous forest (Picea, Abies, Pinus aristata), with no underbrush. Small patches of snow remaining. I walked into clearing where remains of shade were evident and saw grouse standing in shade on snowbank 1 ft high and 8 ft across. Bird acted unconcerned, walking down off bank and in between trees for perhaps 15 ft when it stopped. I collected this bird, a ? (153).
