K Dixon 1947 Journal 101. July 21. En route to Dillon, Beaverhead Co., Montana. Proceeded to Dillon via Twin Bridges, arriving in Dillon at 8:00 PM. Camped for night along river 1 mile west J Dillon. July 22. Dillon, 5100 ft., Beaverhead Co., Montana. Noted both Cliff Swallows and Bank Swallows flying over Artemesia above river at base of rocky cliff area. Departed from Dillon at 1:00 PM proceeding 12 miles north on US Hwy. 97, turning west and driving up Bird Creek to camp. Bird Creek, 18 miles NW Dillon, 7100 ft., Beaverhead Co., Mont. Arrived at camp (Winnertown Camp Ground, U.S. Forest Service) at 2:30 PM. Area in Pinus murrayana (Lodgepole pine) forest with scattered aspen groves and willows along Swift Creek. Caught Rana (No 201) at edge of Swift creek. July Set 20 traps in area along stream below beaver dams. Scattered willows 4-8 ft high, many fallen logs and grass to one foot high; many streamlets. Set 5 traps among willows away from stream, 5 at edge of water and 10 among fallen logs in lodgepole grove. July 23. Bird Creek, 18 mi NW Dillon 7100 ft., Beaverhead Co., Montana. Caught four Zapus (see species account) and one adult Peromyscus (Or. 206) in 70 traps. Walked into woods north of camp. Squeaked
