ADixon 1947 Journal July 19. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8000 ft., Park Co., Montana. with widespread antlers at edge of shrue- fir forest (clearing for firebreak 75 yards wide; conifers reproduction 12 ft high - herbaceous growth lush. Collected Hyloichus ustulata (♂ no 195) singing from top of snag at edge of firebreak clearing. Reset traps, some 1 which were sprung by hail storm in late afternoon. July 20. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8000 ft., Park Co., Montana. Clear cool morning. left camp at 9:00 AM. Took Sorex (♂ 196) in trap at edge of willow bog and coniferous forest and ♀ 197 in trap within bog at base of shrue (see species acc't). Caught Zapus (♀, 198) in trap set among Equisetum at base of fallen log 3 feet from pool 2 ft. across. Herbaceous vegetation Thalictrium, a ragweed, and an unidentified composite. This set at edge of 25 yard wide clearing in shrue forest. Found nest of Chipping Sparrow containing 3 eggs situated 1 foot above ground in shrue in area of young conifers. Returned to camp at 8:30 PM. July 21. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. Broke camp at 8:30 AM, driving through Yellowstone National Park via Gardiner to Livingston Montana. left Livingston at 3:15 PM, driving to Bozeman and through Whitehall, turning south on State highway 11.
