KDixon 1947 Journal July 17. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. fell into water and drowned. Relocated 25 traps in boggy area in dense coniferous woods 1/2 mile south of camp. Left 5 traps in downed logs and 4 in rocky area where trapping done previously. July 18. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. Clear cold morning. Left camp at 05:40. Cought one sub-adult Peromyscus in trap at end of log (trap in which Peromyscus no 175 was caught July 17). Other 8 traps in this area empty. 2 mi NE Cooke 8000 ft., Park Co., Montana. Area J dense Picea. Forest on flat; ground boggy with coarse grasses and moss near streams; many fallen logs. Caught Sorex (no 182) in trap at waters edge in area J Thalictrum, Ribes and Back of shrub had been chewed, apparently by another shrew. grasses under the spruce trees 80 ft in height. cought Peromyscus (no 181) in adjacent trap in similar growth. Collected Steller Jay (F, no 185), one of a pair in the tree tops. Took a young Peromyscus in a trap at the base of a fallen log 20 yards from the stream. Total 7 mammals for 34 traps. Rebaited all traps with rolled oats. Proceeded up slope to north across meadow to top of ridge. North facing slope shallow; young spruce fir & pine trees in belt 25 yards wide, stream and willow bog and fire break leading
