K Dixon 1947 Journal July 17. 2 mNE Cooke, 8500 ft, Park Co, Montana. Partly overcast early in morning; intermittent showers and flurry hail during morning. Left camp to run traplines at 6:30 AM. Caught Peromyscus (d, no 175) in trap set at base of fallen log on hillslope 50 yards from stream. Nothing else in 40 traps. Collected Eutamias (f, no 177) on log in open cutover coniferous woods. Attempts to stalk singing d Olive-backed and Hermit Thrushes unsuccessful. Noted one Snowshoe Rabbit and two others together (one larger than other; possibly the first individual seen). Noted Olive-sided Flycatcher and a small Empidonax which I was unable to collect. Bird remained in tree top; call similar to that of P. difficilis. Collected 2 Eutamias (f, no 176) climbing trunk of a fir tree. Collected White-crowned Sparrow (d, no 178) in willow patch near camp at 7:00 PM. Collected Dryobates villosum (d, no 179) in evening in open woods area where one had been seen previously. Bird drumming rapidly on dead snag, apparently "saw". Collected Picidae tridactyla (d, no 180) in same tree in which d, no 169 was taken two days ago. Found adult Zonotrichia leucophrys in trap in water; bird caught by one toenail apparently fluttered
