Returned to camp at H:00 having noted Red-shafted Flicker and Red-breasted Nuthatch en route. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. Reset traps in evening, leaving 16 traps in dry woods area I downed timbers and setting 8 traps along creek in meadow area with dwarf willow + 8 in spruce fir forest along stream. Traps avg. 10 yards apart; all baited with rolled oats. July 15. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. Run traplines at 06:15. Took a duck (no 162) Peromyscus in woods area of downed logs and a Zapus (no 164) in the same trap in which Zapus no 157 was taken yesterday (trap along willow bordered creek in meadow). Took Peromyscus (no 163) at edge of stream in spruce fir woods. 08:30 - 09:30 hunted birds in dry coniferous forest (Pinus aristata, P. murrayana, Abies, Picea) (no underbrush) in area east of camp. Collected Batis gambeli and 2 Junco in this area. called up pair of Ruby-crowned Kinglets + saw Red-shafted Flicker and ?? Hairy Woodpecker. In evening checked traps along stream in meadow + spruce-fir forest - total 22 in these areas, the 16 from yesterday + 6 in forest.
