KDixon 1947 Journal July 12. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. Collected Lincoln Sparrow (♂, no 145) in conifers at edge of willow scrub in bog 100 yds. east of camp which was situated on flat. July 13. 2 mi NE Cooke, 8500 ft., Park Co., Montana. Clear cold morning. Hunted in clearings on shallow slope west of camp 06:30-07:00 noting Cassin Finches in loose flocks feeding on ground in clearings or in trees; birds wary flying before I was within shotgun range. Noted Pine Grosbeaks in tops of firs. Collected Lincoln Sparrow in willows along stream bog (willows 3 high). Bird a ♀, no 150, with 5 crane flies (Tipulidae) in beak. Collected Cassin Finch ♂ no 151 singing from deal snag in spruce grove at edge of meadow. Also took Junco (♂ no 152) in patch of young firs in same locality (clearing in which camp is located). As I was retrieving the Junco, a pair of White- crowned Sparrows gave frequent “chip” notes from perches nearby. I discovered a fledgling perhaps one week old perched at the base of a willow shrub in this patch of firs and dwarf willow. Harold Reynolds found a nest of this sparrow in grass beside road. Young appeared to be newly-hatched. Left camp again at 9:00 AM - weather as before. Went up same slope where I had noted
