K Dixon 1947 Journal July 12. 2 mi NE Cooke @ 500 ft, Park Co, Montana. at edge of rock slide & snow bank adjacent and saw a [illegible] moving down the rocks. The animal saw me and "froze" in plain sight. Shortly afterward it uttered a single bleat. I collected this individual (N.C. Reynolds No 671). I walked downslope and saw a bird perched on a fir tree about 12 ft high, the bird being at the top. I collected this individual which proved to be a pipit, a ♀ no 148. As this bird fell, its mate flew to perch in a young fir in this clump about 3 ft above ground. All efforts to collect this bird failed. I walked across the meadows and flushed 2 or 3 more pipits. On a grove of fir (Abies) and Pinus aristata at the edge of the slope I saw Mountain Bluebirds and Pine Siskins. I walked back across the meadow collecting another Pipit, a ♀ no 147. This bird was fired upon once yet circled and returned to same area (within 50 yards). Proceeded downward into pines & firs at timber- line where I noted Clarke Nuttallches & Robins & collected a white-crowned Sparrow in a figure (no 149). Pipits were using tops of conifers for nides at heights 20 ft above ground. Walked downslope to camp, noting no new species.
