K Dixon 1947 Journal July 9. 2 mi E Shriver, 6500 ft., Carbon Co., Montana. singing of House Wren (no 138) in same row of ashens. Proceeded to conference ridge west of camp. Noted injury feigning behavior of F Audubon Warbler and noted nest in Douglas fir at edge of forest, 10 ft above ground. Returned later and found that nest contained 4 (possibly 5) newly hatched fledging. M & F later seen carrying food in area. Noted pair of Western Tanagers in area, the M singing. Saw pair of Pink-billed Juncos on ground; one, the M, flew to tree & I took it, no 141. Waited 10 minutes for returning mate but no sign of her. While picking up the M, another pair flew to area and I took the F, no 139. The M flew to her as she fluttered and I also took him, no 140. Heard Red-breasted Nuthatch but wasn't able to locate it. Washed to area along stream near row of ashens where Phylloscopus taken & squawked up a Tolmie Warbler; M had been singing earlier. Went down toward willows in marshy area, noting Mountain Bluebird on fencepost. Attempted to call up Song Sparrow but had no success. Eventually took a Lincoln Sparrow (no 142) the only one seen in area. 2 Tolmie Warblers were singing, one from area where I shot at M.
