K Dixon 1947 Journal July 8. 2 mi E Shiver, 6500 ft., Carbon Co. Montana. upslope and flushed a Junco which eventually worked in to a juniper thicket where it was joined by its mate. I collected the ♂ (no 137) and the ♀ which was identical in color pattern but too far damaged for preservation. Noted pair of Juncoes in pines 100 yards below camp at sunset. Collected singing of Chipping Sparrow in dead tree at edge of meadow at 8:00 PM. July 9. 2 mi E Shiver, 6500 ft., Carbon Co., Montana. Clear, cool, calm morning. Left camp at 5:30 AM proceeding to area at edge of slope 100 yards below camp. Noted group of 3 or 4 pairs of Ruby-crowned Kinglets in Douglas Fir calling and fluttering wings, shifting perch frequently. After several minutes during which time I was endeavoring to see cause of excitement, a clidharbe commenced descending from dense foliage to top of fir. Kinglets disturbed. Proceeded to nest of Red-naped Sapsucker in aspen in row along fence. Tapped tree and bird emerged and was collected, a ♂ no 143. Cavity about 12 ft above ground. Twittering of young heard inside but I was unable to climb tree. Presumably this bird is mate of ♂ no 130, taken July 7. Collected a 88.
