K Dixon 1947 Journal. 84. July 6. 2 mi E Shriver, 6500 ft, Carbon Co., Montana. Ground among scattered willows at junction of streams marshy with grasses and low sedges. Heard Long Sparrows singing and collected a juvenile. Noted 3 Lazuli Buntings singing and saw one F. Followed an Empidonax flycatcher as it flew from one singing post on dead branches at top of willows to another. Song suggestive of Western Flycatcher. Took this bird, O, no 117. Noted pair of Yellow Warblers in willow thickets, thc M singing but never had a clear shot. Noted several singing Long Sparrows but never was afforded a chance to take any. Heard Redwing and Krumit Thrush in area as well as Yellowthroat. Shot at and missed Tolmie Warbler 3. Attracted Black-capped Chickadee by squeaking and took bird, a male no 119. Saw young Thamnothis crawling across cowpath 4 feet wide, a few feet from willows and running creek. 8:00 AM, clear, sunny. Returned to camp noting 2 Downy Woodpecker on aspen trunk but had shotgun difficulties and could not collect bird. July 7. 2 mi E Shriver, 6500 ft, Carbon Co., Montana.
