X Dixan 1947 Journal July 5. 2 mi E Shriver, 6500 ft, Carbon Co, Montana. in Douglas Fir - Pine freat n west slope of canyon. Walked down to camp from this point. Harold Reynolds took a ? Ruffed Grouse in area where I took one this morning - probably mate of my bird (No 112). See his notes for data on crop contents. Walked downstream after 7:00 PM and collected ? Andean Warbler (No 116.) apparently about to be fed by ? which was repeating call note and moving closer to area in which I was. ? obviously disturbed by my presence; I called occasionally. July 6. 2 mi E Shriver, 6500 ft, Carbon Co, Montana Clear cool morning. left camp at 5:30 working in area 100 yards upstream for 15 minutes. Went downstream into grove of [illegible] where flock of Pine Siskins was active, birds calling + shifting perch frequently. Heard Warbling Vireo singing in aspen and squealed it up and collected the bird, a ? (no 18). Proceeded across ranchyard to another grove of aspen in which I called up a pair of Lazuli Buntings, taking the ? (no 12). Noted a warbler in aspens also, only a fleeting glimpse. Walked down across meadows to shrubby willows 10-12 ft high along streams.
