K Dixon 1947 Journal July 2. 2 mi W Ft Howe R.S., 1000 ft, Powder River Co, Montana Rock Wren, Violet-green Swallow in this same area. Moved around to north-facing slope and collected ? Cowbird perched in pine with adult ? Mountain Bluebird higher in same tree. Noted Chipping Sharrowe in this open growth. Proceeded upcreek at 6:15 AM, noting Yellow Warblers, Mourning Dove and Red-shafted Flickers. Did and attempted calling birds with Horned Owl notes. Magpies called and moved in to within 50 yards; other birds ignored me. Walked upstream among cottonwood, ash and willow along stream and took ? Spotted Towhee feeding bob-tailed immature while immature another begged. ? not in evidence. Returned to Camp and proceeded downstream. Took ? Bronzed Grackle in cottonwood in area where ? taken June 27. A ?, doubtless the mate, was present in the same area. Walked on to vicinity where Eastern Kingbird taken June 29, area about 3/4 mile from Camp. Walked up north-facing slope covered with pines, over lowridge into shallow valley running east and west, at a slight angle to that in which we are camped. South- facing slope gentle, covered with grasses 1-1/2 ft high and scattered low Artemisia bushes. Along the creek, and north-facing slope, there was an open growth of Yellow Pine and shrubby juniper, the ground being grass-covered. Two
